Dog trainer Kang Hyung Wook and his wife finally broke their silence.
On May 24, Kang Hyung Wook and his wife, Susan Elder, took the time to speak about all the allegations against them, including the alleged surveillance camera installed in the female dressing room, mistreatment of employees, and more.
At the beginning of the video, Kang Hyung Wook apologized for the delay and apologized for causing concerns through the latest controversy. He began by clarifying about the surveillance cameras.
He explained, "The surveillance videos are not to monitor employees. Our office is a place where people come and go, we sell products, and anyone can come. We also have dogs and dog trainers, so we need to have surveillance cameras no matter what."
Kang Hyung Wook explained, "We need the surveillance cameras because theft can happen, unwanted individuals can come, and so many things can happen." He added, "We also trained dogs there so dogs could bite us or unexpected things can happen. So we need the surveillance cameras to record what happens so we can check. All offices have surveillance cameras. There are many reasons for surveillance cameras."
Regarding the allegation of constantly monitoring the employees through the surveillance cameras, Kang Hyung Wook refuted, "It's really hard to keep watching the security videos like that. To watch meaningless clips constantly. I don't have the time to sit there and watch. I'm busy."
Kang Hyung Wook's wife also clarified about the surveillance cameras installed in the female dressing room. She explained, "I watched the 'Crime Chief' and saw the photo that appeared on that show. That office is not the Bodeum office in Nam Yang Joo right now, it's the old office in Jam Won Dong. That office didn't have a dressing room."
Kang Hyung Wook explained, "That area was a meeting room. That was a place where our clients would come to have meetings. We would all eat in that area too when we buy food. That place was not the dressing room. That was a multi-functioning room where all the employees used it. There were two bathrooms upstairs and we directed the employees to use the bathroom to change. We didn't have a dressing room because our job doesn't require you to change your clothes."
Kang Hyung Wook and his wife also clarified about monitoring the messenger app used by the company. She explained, "In the beginning, we used the Kakaotalk PC version on the computers. But all our employees used different emails. Some used @naver, some used @gmail so we thought we should make it uniform. Naver provided a free internal messenger app so we purchased their system."
She further explained, "We then asked all the employees to delete their personal Kakaotalk PC version on the computer. After using the Naver service for a while, we got an email that the operators were given a new monitoring page to see how frequently the employees use the messengers and was shown in a graph."
Susan Elder explained that there was abnormal use of the messenger app during certain times. She confessed that she looked at the messenger log trying to look into the abnormalities and discovered that the employees were slandering even her young son. She explained, "When I saw them slandering my son, I became angry."
Meanwhile, the controversy over workplace harassment involving Kang Hyung Wook spread following a post on a job search platform on May 18. The post included accounts of mistreating employees and verbal abuse. The poster claimed they suffered from mental health issues after leaving the company due to anxiety. As Kang Hyung Wook and his wife, Susan Elder, remained silent, the suspicions grew rapidly.
On the other hand, there were also online posts from former employees defending Kang Hyung Wook, leading to a heated debate over the truth. As a result of the fallout, KBS's program 'Dogs Are Incredible,' in which Kang Hyung Wook was appearing, has confirmed a two-week hiatus.
He has a point. Places like dog centers and childcare centers here in the United States have surveillance in every room. Anyone can sue you for no reason. He'll survive this
