Actress Choi Ji-woo, often heralded as the icon of late motherhood, shared how giving birth at the age of 46 has profoundly changed her perspective on life and motherhood. During an appearance on the YouTube channel 'Salty Brother Shin Dong-yup', Choi discussed her experiences and the newfound joy of parenthood.
In the video titled "Stop deceiving us, you broadcasters!!!", Choi opened up about the simple pleasures of life after motherhood, such as enjoying a beer after her day ends, now that her child is 48 months old. "I came out because I can proudly drink alcohol," she remarked, highlighting the freedom she now feels.
Shin Dong-yup responded to Choi’s late motherhood with astonishment, comparing her to the male actor Kim Yong-gun, known for fathering children later in life. Choi embraced the comparison, proudly claiming, "I call myself an icon of late childbirth. I tell others to be encouraged because even at this age, it's possible to have a healthy child."
Addressing the younger cohort of parents, Choi expressed gratitude for being included and mentioned how she had to strive harder due to her age. "I felt terrible just receiving help due to the lack of information, so I turned to books a lot," she explained.
Choi also reflected on the past when she was uncomfortable with being labeled as naive. Shin comforted her by saying that it was a conventional expression back then. Moreover, Choi spoke about the challenges of conceiving, "It didn’t happen as quickly as I thought, which was disheartening. Seeing my contemporaries on screen who were active during the same period gives me comfort and encourages me."
She further discussed the transformations in her life post-childbirth and marriage, "I realized that I need to be a role model as a parent and accumulate more virtue. I truly feel like I've become a more complete person." Choi concluded by sharing how motherhood has reshaped her from being individualistic to someone more nurturing and responsible for her family, highlighting her growth alongside her child.
