Netizens are voicing their opinions on the frequent use of colored contact lenses by K-pop idols.
On an online forum, netizens have been discussing screencaps of idols sporting vibrant contact lenses, a trend that has recently surged in popularity as a fashion statement. These lenses are often prominently featured where they enhance the idols' already striking appearances.
One post, in particular, drew attention as it showcased photos of LE SSERAFIM's Hong Eunchae and Stray Kids' Felix. The original poster's caption reads: "It's not pretty, it's just scary."
Comments on the post ranged from describing the excessive use of these lenses as "monstrous" to acknowledging that Eunchae's lenses didn't appear as unusual. Some netizens speculated that these lenses serve as props to amplify the idols' stage presence, while others attributed their eerie appearance to the intense stage lighting.
Reactions from netizens include:
"They look so uncanny..."
"They might be necessary for the bright, hard lighting on stage"
"I think they look scary in the photos but pretty in the videos"
"I find them pretty haha"
"I don't think Eunchae's are that scary. She just tends to be in a group with a very strong on-stage concept as well."
"Zombie lenses are the ones that are really scary..."
"The idol lenses back in the 2010s were also mindboggling..."
"It should be their own individual choice"
"They actually don't look very ideal to me, but I guess the idols need to shock their audiences with their visuals as per their job"
"The whole point is that the lenses are uncanny and uncomfortable to see, though...let's not refer to the idols themselves"
What are your thoughts on this continuing contact lens trend?
As long as they're a subtle/human color, I don't find them super terrible. It just becomes a problem when it's like pink hair/silver eyes/super pale skin/bright red lip -- it can veer a bit too much into Twilight territory
