Former F.T.Island member Jonghun, who was released from prison after serving time on group sexual assault charges, is suspected of using F.T.Island member Minhwan's address to register his residence falsely.
On March 20, Ilyo News reported that Choi Minhwan lent his residential address to Choi Jonghun in 2018. According to the report, Choi Jonghun used Choi Minhwan's address for a year and has Choi Minhwan's address in his records.
Since Choi Minhwan did not live at that address, he is suspected of falsely registering his residence.
Choi Minhwan's house has been previously revealed through programs such as KBS 2TV's 'Mr. House Husband.' Choi Minhwan is known to own a detached house with one basement floor and two floors above ground. It was revealed he used the basement and the first floor with his ex-wife Yulhee and their children, and Choi Minhwan's parents resided on the second floor.
The media outlet's documents reveal that when Choi Jonghun registered his residence, the house was already inhabited by Choi Minhwan's family and parents.
If Choi Jonghun reported Choi Minhwan's address as his residence without the intention of actually residing there, it would constitute a case of false residence registration.
According to Article 37 (Penal Provision)of the Resident Registration Act in South Korea, anyone who:
1. Fails to report or falsely registers their residence or change of residence
2. Refuses or obstructs an investigation or inquiry conducted by an administrative agency under this act.
3. Forges or alters a resident registration card or uses or lends it to others.
4. Who refuses to submit or obstruct the submission of documents or materials related to resident registration to an administrative agency.
- Shall be punished with imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million KRW (~22,414 USD).
Currently, it has not been confirmed if Choi Minhwan consented to Choi Jonghun's address registration, and is under scrutiny. In response, FNC Entertainment stated they are verifying the details related to this matter.
Meanwhile, Choi Jonghun, who was embroiled in the 'Burning Sun Gate,' was tried in January and March of 2015 for allegedly sexual assaulting and illegally filming women with Jung Joon Young, Mr. Kim, the former MD of Burning Sun, Mr. Kwon, and Mr. Heo, a former entertainment agency employee.
He was imprisoned in May 2019 violating the Act on the Punishment of Violence Crimes (special sexual assault) and served a sentence of 2 years and 6 months, being released on parole in November 2021. Although he was initially sentenced to 5 years in prison, successful negotiations with the victim led to a reduction in his sentence to 2 years and 6 months.
