Broadcaster/Comedian Park Myung Soo raised his concerns about DJ Yesong's drunk driving accident, advocating for stricter penalties.
On February 9, Park Myung Soo hosted his radio show, 'Park Myung Soo's Radio Show,' on KBS Cool FM, with Jeon Ming Ki as his guest. During the program's 'Search N Chart' segment, they discussed the past week's events.
During this discussion, they brought up DJ Yesong's recent drunk driving incident. Yessong had collided with a delivery driver's motorcycle while driving under the influence of alcohol in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, early on the 3rd.
Tragically, the accident resulted in the death of Mr. A, a single father in his 50s. Reports indicated that Yesong had failed to cooperate with the police and was holding a pet dog at the time, which sparked public outrage.
Yesong's blood alcohol level at the time of her arrest was found to be above the legal limit for driving (0.08%). Preliminary drug tests showed no signs of narcotics, and she was alone in the vehicle.
Expressing sympathy for Mr. A's situation as a single father, Park Myung Soo lamented, "What will become of the child left without a father? How will they cope? Drunk driving is utterly unacceptable."
Continuing, he argued for stricter punishments, suggesting that those convicted of drunk driving should lose their driving privileges completely and face severe penalties, especially if they rely on driving for their livelihood. He suggested that such individuals should face prison sentences exceeding 20 years if they cause harm to others.
He emphasized the impact on the families of victims, stating that leaving the scene would be a preferable choice over risking others' lives. He also advocated for passengers to be held equally accountable.
According to reports from Sports Chosun, Yesong conveyed her remorse through her mother from prison, acknowledging the gravity of her actions and expressing regret for the pain caused to the victim's family.
Regarding her actions immediately following the accident, Yesong explained that she had not initially realized she had hit someone. She explained, "I didn't see the victim and didn't realize that I had hit someone. There were so many people gathering around my car so I got out of the car. But my dog kept barking so people were telling me to hold the dog because the dog was being noisy, so I did. How can I prioritize a dog over a person's life?"
Currently in custody, Yesong was issued an arrest warrant by Judge Yoon Jae Nam of the Seoul Central District Court on the 5th, citing concerns about the possibility of her fleeing.
DJ Yesong (Ahn Ye Song age 23) debuted as a member of the girl group INSTAR in 2019 and was highly active as a DJ in China.
