Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who recently completed a two-day visit to South Korea, expressed his commitment to continuous investment in the country and the beginning of a strong partnership with top local creators.
In a column posted on Netflix's blog on February 19, Ted Sarandos shared his excitement about his Seoul visit and his eagerness to meet the creative minds behind Netflix's Korean content lineup. He also mentioned his meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and actor Lee Jung Jae, the lead actor in 'Squid Game,' highlighting Netflix's dedication to the Korean creative industry.
CEO Ted Sarandos also visited the set of 'Squid Game 2,' praising the scale and creativity of the production. He noted that the new games showcased on the set would offer an entertainment experience unique to Korean content, echoing the vision of director Hwang Dong Hyuk. Ted Sarandos explained, "I cannot reveal any spoilers, but the new games to be presented on an overwhelming scale at the set will provide an entertainment experience that only Korean content can offer to the world."
Moreover, CEO Sarandos spent time communicating with employees at 'I-RAIN Studio,' a special effects (VFX) studio located in Korea and a subsidiary of Netflix.
He highlighted the studio's growth, from its humble beginnings in 2019 with just five employees to now having over 130 domestic VFX artists. Sarandos also mentioned the success of Netflix's VFX Academy internship program, with 70% of the first cohort being hired by Netflix partners. He expressed optimism about the future of graduates from this program and their potential contributions to the Korean creative industry.
