On the 26th, singer and actress Nam Gyu Ri appeared on MBC FM4U Radio's 'Hope Song at Noon with Kim Shin-young'.
Nam Gyu Ri released her digital single 'HALO' on the 22nd, marking her return after 13 years. She started by saying, "I didn’t even realize 13 years had passed. However, unexpectedly, some projects I had worked on got delayed, creating a gap. Time is the most precious thing to me, and with the projects being delayed, I felt down and started learning guitar for comfort, and it just so happened my niece was born."
She continued, "I've always wanted to do music, but I've always lacked confidence in singing. Since the members on both sides sing so well, almost like national treasures, I always felt, even if I worked hard, am I qualified to release a song? Would anyone give me a song to sing? I actually reached out but didn’t get any songs. They didn’t answer my calls. There were funny episodes like that."
Nam Gyu Ri, who started singing to her niece, said, "That's when the lyrics came to me. I made it with my guitar teacher, and by chance, I played it for a production company, and they suggested we work on it together. In the process of arranging it, the song 'HALO' came out."
She added, "I was very worried. I thought people might not like it because it’s so different. They might wonder why I came out with music that is completely opposite to the voice or style they missed."
Nam Gyu Ri also mentioned that taking care of her niece is not easy. "My niece is just over two years old now, and it’s really hard. There have been days when I sang all day and lost my voice. I pretty much know all the children's songs by heart," she laughed.
When told her niece must be fond of her aunt, she shared, "She can’t pronounce well yet, so she calls me 'Nana' instead of aunt, and at the daycare, when she calls for 'Nana' and cries, the teachers ask who Nana is, wondering why she keeps calling 'Nana' all day," drawing attention with her affectionate story.
