According to the Chinese portal NetEase, on February 23, a recent development in China caught the attention of many: the auction of IVE member Jang Won Young's hair.
A Chinese individual, 'A,' hosted a live auction on an online auction trading platform, offering three strands of Jang Won Young's hair for sale.
The listing attracted more than 1,200 people watching the auction and generated a lot of attention.
'A' claimed, "I personally collected Jang Won Young's hair from a concert venue. Verification through DNA is also possible."
The initial bid was set at 99,999 yuan (approximately 18.47 million KRW [~13,862 USD]).
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the authenticity of the hair and the credibility of 'A's explanation, local fans wasted no time in placing their bids.
The bidding war drove the price of the hair to a staggering 103,662 yuan (approximately 19.15 million KRW [~14,373 USD]).
As this news spread, netizens expressed their disbelief and criticism. Comments such as "Are they really selling that?" and "Even if it is Jang Won Young's hair, selling it for tens of millions of KRW is absurd." Some also found it disturbing that someone was selling another person's hair and equally strange that others were willing to buy it.
Additionally, some netizens condemned the auction as an invasion of the artist's personal privacy.
That’s creepy
