Park Min Young denies illegal benefits in Kang Jong Hyun case

AKP STAFF

Actress Park Min Young has clarified that she has not received any illegal benefits in connection to allegations involving her former boyfriend, businessman Kang Jong Hyun.

On the 15th, Dispatch reported that Park Min Young received 250 million won from Kang Jong Hyun. According to the report, Kang withdrew the money from a subsidiary company in the form of a loan and paid it into Park Min Young's personal account as living expenses.

In response, Park Min Young's agency, Hook Entertainment, stated, “Actress Park Min Young was investigated as a reference person by the prosecution in February 2023, in connection with Kang Jong Hyun using her account in another name. It was clearly stated that Park Min Young did not participate in any illegal activities or gain any illegal benefits. The 250 million won mentioned in the article was used by Kang Jong Hyun's account, not as Park Min Young's living expenses,” drawing a clear line.

The agency added, “Park Min Young has been misunderstood for over a year due to false information. Despite this, she accepted criticism and regretted her actions, focusing more on her acting career. She believes that showing good acting through good works is her role and duty as an actress.”

Meanwhile, Kang Jong Hyun was previously embroiled in controversy as the suspected real owner of the cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb and was romantically linked to Park Min Young in 2022. They acknowledged their relationship but soon announced their separation. Park Min Young was also investigated by the prosecution and claimed to be unrelated to the suspicions of using a borrowed-name account. She returned to the small screen on October 1st in tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Marry My Husband.’

The full statement from Park Min Young is as follows:

Ugh, Hook Entertainment are still a thing? Who's running it now then? I thought their Chief Exec got carted off to jail, or did I imagine that? Probably wishful thinking after what they did to Lee Seung-gi.

People keep saying she probably didn’t know he was a crook but he’d already been convicted for fraud twice before they started dating and those convictions are public record. He also has close ties to the Korean and Thai mafias so it’s hard to believe she never noticed something was fishy, particularly since she was living with him and he’d even given her sister a position at one of his companies.
