In a recent discussion within the K-pop community, fans are engaged in conversations about the NCT system, particularly in light of the debut of the new group, NCT WISH.
The NCT system is distinctive for its open-ended structure, allowing for unlimited members with regular additions to the group. Moreover, NCT members have the flexibility to be part of multiple unit groups concurrently.
Although the new system garnered much attention from the public for its unique and fresh layout, fans have recently changed their minds.
One netizen started a discussion in a popular online community and wrote, "Why did SM do that to NCT?"
They wrote, "When you summarize the BS that NCT DREAM did:
- Overlapping member system.
- Despite not consistently adding trainees, they quickly changed to a graduation system for NCT DREAM and brought back Mark.
- After NCT DREAM, the next hero is a sticker. Clearly, a selection based on giving the main composer copyright fees.
- After the fixed system for NCT DREAM, they quickly lost their firepower. From this point on, NCT DREAM and NCT 127 lost their differentiation.
- They stored Shota and Sungchan for 3 years. SM should've been sued if they didn't become part of RIIZE.
- The operation of WayV is a total mess.
- Created the U system but practically operated it in a way that the main members, including the main unit, are visible.
They always ask for Lee Soo Man to come back whenever something happens at SM, but considering how he managed NCT, especially in his last years, there's no excuse. If things went well, even if Lee Soo Man embezzled 10 trillion KRW, he wouldn't have been chased away."
Korean netizens commented, "Eliminating the graduation system was the beginning of the failure of the NCT system. The presence of overlapping members has created chaos on both sides and observing the current situation, it's evident that there are no advantages to having overlapping members. It's unclear for whom this system is designed, and the overlapping members, instead of benefiting financially, seem to hinder the plans. Non-overlapping members, who could have had a career trajectory without interference, are now unable to progress," and "After making a debut with 'Kick It' and achieving the highest level, they seriously messed up by taking a year and a half hiatus filled with stickers. Since then, the buzz and excitement around them have noticeably diminished. This is why idols need to consistently release 2-3 songs in rapid succession to maintain their popularity."
What do you think about the system? Let us know in the comments below!
To me one of the main reasons it is hard for NCT to gain even higher popularity is that you can't quickly/easily explain NCT to a new person and a new person can also not learn the group members easily even if they have some interest in the music. You have to write an essay each time you want to gain them a new fan so how can their popularity spread efficiently? It's complicated already, but each time they add onto NCT more, then it gets even more complicated to introduce to people, like the group is trying to run but keeps getting more baggage attached to them on a chain
