In today's digital age, where the pursuit of online attention often pushes boundaries, a disturbing event has highlighted the scary repercussions of extreme measures taken for internet fame.
A recent, alarming incident involving a dangerous prank that almost resulted in a fatality is igniting outrage among Korean netizens.
This disturbing situation came to public attention after the victim's spouse shared their story in an online community, seeking guidance and support.
The victim's husband wrote, "Last Saturday morning, as my wife was on her way to work, she slipped on an icy patch, resulting in a twisted ankle and a sprain. Thankfully, a passerby quickly dialed 119 (an emergency number in Korea). The police also came along and asked for my wife's phone number. When she asked why, they explained that it seemed like someone intentionally sprayed water in the area. They wanted to collect contacts in case it was a crime, and she was a victim. So she gave them her phone number just in case.
After receiving treatment and getting a leg cast at the emergency room, she came home. For the past few days, she hasn't been able to work or go outside; she's stuck at home. I initially thought it was just an accident because my wife was careless or not cautious enough, but yesterday, the police contacted us.
Last Friday, two people in their 20s were caught on the neighborhood surveillance cameras intentionally pouring water in the area. When questioned about their actions, they admitted to freezing the water on the asphalt, installing a camera in a corner, and recording accidents of people falling. They uploaded these incidents on TikTok and YouTube. Six people, including my wife, fell on that same spot. They claimed it was just a prank, and they didn't expect anyone to actually get hurt. When they tried to melt the ice with hot water, it didn't work.
They didn't apologize and were very unapologetic, so I took a day off today. My wife and I went to the hospital, submitted medical reports, and filed a complaint. I'm outraged. Besides the medical reports and complaints, is there anything more we can do legally?"
After reading about this incident, Korean netizens expressed anger and commented, "Crazy people, I hope they fall for the same prank," "Are the heads on their necks an ornament?" "They really didn't think anyone would fall?" "It's not even funny. It's only causing harm to others," "Need to ban their TikToks and YouTube accounts," "Someone could've died if they hit their head when falling down," "These kids are so crazy," "If an elderly person fell, it would've been detrimental because elderly people are weak," "Their IQs are so low it seems," "They really are crazy. Just sue them," "That's attempted murder," and "This makes me so angry. My mom also has weak bones so she gets so scared to walk on frozen roads."
Pranks need to go back to making people feel confused and laughing out loud due to the outrageous situational conversations, not these kind of pranks. You really think people aren't going to get hurt slipping on ice? That's just absurd n dumb. It was definitely a lie. 🤦♀️
