The recent news of F.T. Island's Choi Min Hwan and former LABOUM member Yulhee deciding to part ways after five years of marriage has come as a great shock to many.
On December 4, the two celebrities announced through their respective social media accounts that they would end their marriage. Both stated that they had come to an agreement that Choi Min Hwan would be taking custody of the three children, but Yulhee would continue to participate in the parenting actively.
Many fans expressed shock as both Yulhee and Choi Min Hwan, with their three children, have appeared on various entertainment programs, sharing with fans their journey as a family.
Yulhee and Choi Min Hwan's divorce news is still a trending topic of discussion as many looked back at instances reflected on the show that might have been the possible reasons for the divorce.
Korean netizens speculate that one of the biggest reasons for their separation is the differences in parenting values. One netizen brought up this reason in a popular online community and explained, "Yulhee and Choi Min Hwan's parenting values are very different. When Yulhee goes to the amusement park, she said she would buy the fast (skip-the-line) pass so that their kids don't need to wait in line. But, Choi Min Hwan believes that the kids need to learn patience (waiting in line)... So even starting from that (it's different)."
Other netizens joined the online community and commented, "I feel like she wants to buy the fast pass because it's hard for her. It was hard for me (waiting in line) as an adult but when I was a kid, even waiting was fun," "If you have money, I say buy the fast pass. If they can afford it, they can buy it, they have three kids too...I think they would have other opportunities to learn patience," "I don't think it's right or wrong but it's very clear their values are very different," "I would most definitely choose the latter," "I don't think it's about not having the money for Choi Min Hwan. He has money so it's definitely the difference in parenting values," "But the kids are so young, so is there a reason for them to buy them fast passes? There are more rides they can't go on," "I think Yulhee wants to give her children the best money can get them. Even Dr. Oh Eun Young said it's excessive to have her kids travel 1 hr 30 mins to go to a specific kindergarten," and "I mean, if they're filthy rich then sure...and also it's their money but there are limited rides for young children and the waiting time wouldn't be too long. If they're spending 700~800 every time they go to the amusement park, then that's a lot."
They're getting divorced because you can't base a marriage off of an accidental pregnancy, not because of queuing preferences.
