The former President of South Korea, Moon Jae In, addressed the untimely death of actor Lee Sun Gyun.
On December 28, via his Facebook page, the former President conveyed his condolences regarding the tragic passing of actor Lee Sun Gyun.
He expressed, "I mourn the unfortunate death of actor Lee Sun Gyun. As an actor that I've become familiar with through movies and dramas, it feels as though a close acquaintance has departed from this world."
Former President Moon continued, expressing profound sorrow, stating, "It is even more heart-wrenching as it seems the investigative practices of law enforcement agencies and the reporting behavior of the media is the catalyst for his tragic decision." He added, "I sincerely hope that this sorrowful incident prompts introspection and a departure from regressive investigative and reporting practices, preventing the recurrence of such heartbreaking events."
Emphasizing further, he continued, "We must put an end to situations where allegations and speculations flood the media, causing significant harm to reputation and dignity to individuals even before criminal charges are confirmed, ultimately leading to tragic outcomes."
On December 27, Seoul Seongbuk Police found actor Lee Sun Gyun deceased in his car near Seoul's War Memorial. Earlier that day, a report of a will-like note led to the discovery of his vehicle at 10:30 AM. This comes just 69 days after allegations of drug use were brought against him in October.
Despite negative drug test results, the investigation continued based on claims by nightclub manager 'A,' who demanded 350 million KRW from Lee Sun Gyun and had a history of drug offenses. Lee Sun Gyun denied the allegations, suggesting he thought substances given by 'A' were sleep aids and even volunteered for a lie detector test. Following his death, the police noted the challenges of evidence gathering and stated no coercive measures were used in the investigation.
Liars. Even his lawyer came out after that last, 19 hour, interrogation, stated that it had been confrontational, and that the situation was unjust. That's why a polygraph test was requested.
