Singer Bang Ye Dam, known for his stint on 'K-pop Star Season 2' back in 2013, has opened up about his departure from the group TREASURE and his journey as a solo artist.
After a long seven-year training period with YG Entertainment, Bang Ye Dam officially debuted as part of TREASURE, embarking on his music career. However, his time with the group was relatively short-lived, with his group activities being temporarily suspended in 2022, and he officially withdrew from TREASURE six months later.
Regarding his departure from YG Entertainment, he stated, "I left the company because I had a change of heart." He mentioned that he had contemplated studying producing and pursuing solo activities since his trainee days but had decided to align his goals with the company's vision. Over time, however, he found a new direction through conversations with the company.
Bang Ye Dam also opened up about his "worries," expressing his desire to pursue a solo career and showcase his unique style. While he could have continued as a solo artist under YG, he cited "differences in approach" as a reason for seeking a new agency.“I don’t think it was to the point where I couldn’t bear it.” He said, “It may seem that way in the end, but I have been at YG for a long time and have learned a lot. However, I think it was quite different from the picture I had when I was setting goals before starting this business. The longer it was delayed, the more regrettable it would be for the fans and the company."
He acknowledged the value of his time with TREASURE, emphasizing that he aims to strike a balance between his idol-like and artist-like tendencies in his solo career. He noted that artists tend to express themselves more openly and honestly, while idols often adapt to their fans' expectations.
In support of his former group, Bang Ye Dam expressed his admiration for TREASURE members and their ability to adapt to changes. He praised their resilience and growth despite the challenges they faced.
Bang Ye Dam released his first solo album, 'Only One,' last month, marking the beginning of his solo career. The album contains six songs, including the title track "Only One", and showcases his evolution as an artist.
What's crazy is wasn't it bang yedam who said he wanted to be apart of a group. When YG wanted him to go solo?
