On December 21 KST, EDAM Entertainment confirmed that the police have recently identified the anonymous individual who previously reported singer IU to the police for plagiarism.
Earlier in May of this year, this anonymous individual reported IU to the police for violating copyright laws on 6 occasions. In August, the case was dismissed by police, as the issue did not directly involve the original composers whose creative works were supposedly "plagiarized", nor the actual composers of the six of IU's songs supposedly involved in the "plagiarizing". EDAM Entertainment called the case a direct attempt to "defame IU".
In September, EDAM Entertainment proceeded to file a defamation lawsuit against the individual with the Seoul Central District Court. Now, approximately 3 months later, the police have identified information about the individual who initially filed the police report, and their information has now been given to IU's legal representative, Shinwon Law Firm.
As the lawsuit is still ongoing, EDAM Entertainment refrained from disclosing further information, but assured that the defamation lawsuit will continue until the initial accuser faces the legal consequences of their actions.
