The K-pop online communities are currently ablaze with frustration directed at a male idol.
This dissatisfaction stems from his recent declaration to fans, wherein he expressed his desire to refrain from filming additional content for them. He communicated his intent to focus solely on delivering top performances on stage and expressed the extra content is troublesome.
During a recent live stream on Weverse, TREASURE's Hyunsuk, once again, caused much buzz in various online communities with another controversial statement.
He shared, "When I'm performing, I want to only do performing, focus only on performing. I honestly don't want to do the extra things. Of course, if you're really curious about our team members and want to see them, I would do them (the extra content), but I honestly, as a singer, I don't want to do these miscellaneous things before I stand on stage. A singer should prepare the stage (performance) well, why do other useless things? There are so many things these days. If it's performance, then concentrate on performance. If it's content, concentrate on content."
Korean netizens have gathered in a popular online community where they had a heated debate about whether an idol should just concentrate on on-stage performances and concerts or should also do other content such as dance challenges, behind-the-scenes footage, connecting with fans, etc.
Many of the Korean netizens are criticizing Hyunsuk's latest remark, saying there are numerous idols who do so much more and don't complain.
They commented, "Then why did you become an idol," "Shouldn't he complain to his company? why is he saying this to his fans?" "I mean, I wouldn't mind if he does performances so exceptionally," "Why did he even become an idol then?" "I guess being idol isn't for you. I think it would help you and your fans if you just quit being an idol," "Even Beyonce films content like behind-the-scenes content before her concerts," "If he only wants to perform then he can stop being an idol. Also, if you look at the really successful idol groups, they're really good with fan services like providing different content etc." and "I don't get this guy. Just tell the company and stop complaining to your fans."
What do you think? Should idols concentrate solely on on-stage performances, or should they also do other content for fans?
