At the 'MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2023' (MTV VMAJ 2023), attended by singer and actor Cha Eun Woo and others, a stabbing incident occurred. Fortunately, no artists were injured, but one audience member suffered a stab wound and was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The incident took place at 5:45 p.m. on the 23rd at 'K-Arena Yokohama' in Yokohama, Japan, where the music awards ceremony had been underway since 2 p.m. Artists such as Cha Eun Woo from South Korea and Japanese singer-actor Yamashita Tomohisa were present at the event.
According to local police, a woman in her 40s was stabbed in the abdomen by an assailant at the scene. Four ambulances were dispatched to respond to the incident, and the police are currently pursuing the whereabouts of the assailant.
An eyewitness, a woman in her 50s, stated, "I was standing in line for the artist's autograph session when police cars and ambulances rushed in. It's terrifying that something like this happened."
Meanwhile, Cha Eun Woo was in attendance at the awards ceremony, where he received the 'Global Icon Award.'
Regarding the incident, Cha Eun Woo's agency, Fantagio, responded to inquiries from MyDaily on the 24th, stating, "There is no separate information received concerning the artist's safety in the local context."
