The hit drama 'My Dearest' won the prestigious grand award at the '2023 Grimae Awards' ceremony.

On November 22, the '2023 Grimae Awards' took place at M Lounge in MBC's new building in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

The coveted Daesang (grand prize) of the day went to 'My Dearest,' which concluded with its highest viewership rating of 12.9% on the 17th. 'My Dearest' depicts the story of hope amid the love and hardships of lovers amid the turbulent period of the Qing invasion of Joseon.

Kim Hwa Young, the drama's camera director, said, "I am very proud at this moment." The director stated, "Every time I went to the set, I went out with the intention of capturing the sincerity of everyone who participated in the work." He added, "I tried my best to convey sincerity while watching actors who performed better than I expected. I am so happy to receive the award on behalf of all the staff who filmed 'My Dearest' for nearly a year."

The Best Actor awards were presented to Nam Goong Min and Ahn Eun Jin, both of whom portrayed the lead roles in the drama. Nam Goong Min conveyed his delight, remarking, "I arrived here with a heart filled with more joy than any other award ceremony." He went on to express his gratitude to the attending directors and lighting directors, emphasizing how, over time, he has come to recognize the significance of their roles in the production process. Nam Goong Min acknowledged their unwavering passion and valuable guidance, recalling instances when their expressions provided him with the necessary support to maintain his focus during emotionally charged scenes.

Nam Goong Min emphasized, "The success of 'My Dearest' is thanks to the directors. All the directors created 'My Dearest,' and I am so grateful to them."

Ahn Eun Jin, who received the Best Actress award, said, "I thought about what to say, but senior colleagues have already conveyed everything, and I feel the same emotions in detailed gratitude." She mentioned the challenges and worries before starting 'My Dearest' but expressed how everything was resolved once they arrived on set with the help of all the staff.

'My Dearest' also won awards in the directing and lighting categories, making it a grand total of 5 awards at the Grimae Awards.

Director Kim Jung Yong said, "Becoming the director of the most successful drama of the year and being invited to this place is a great honor," expressing sincere gratitude for the meaningful award. He added, "All directors would say the same, but for drama directors, the most important partner is the camera director." He praised the cast and crew for their dedication to the script and the performances of the two actors.

The 'Grimae Awards' is an award established by the Korean Society of Photography Society (KDPS) in 1993 and celebrates its 36th year this year. It is presented to cinematographers who have pursued outstanding visual beauty and creative images in programs produced by various broadcasting stations over the past year.
