The movie '12.12: The Day' (directed by Kim Seong-su) dominated the weekend box office in South Korea.
According to the tally by the Korean Film Council's Integrated Computer Network for Cinema Tickets on the 27th [November], '12.12: The Day' maintained the top spot at the box office with 625,109 viewers the previous day.
Adding the audience count from Saturday, the 25th, which was 594,448, approximately 1.23 million people enjoyed '12.12: The Day' during its opening weekend alone. The cumulative audience total is 1,892,703.
The box office pace of '12.12: The Day' is extraordinary. It surpassed the opening week's cumulative audience count of 1.72 million for the movie 'Smugglers,' which attracted a total of 5.14 million viewers this summer, marking the highest opening week score for a release this year after 'The Roundup 3'.
The film also surpassed the opening week audience count of 1.6 million for 'Inside Men' (2015), as well as the opening week scores for all Korean movies released in November in history.
'12.12: The Day' is a 2023 South Korean historical drama film starring Hwang Jung-min, Jung Woo-sung, Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon, and Kim Sung-kyun. The film is set against the backdrop of the 12 December 1979 military coup from the late 1970s to early 1980s.
