Japan's popular entertainment & lifestyle magazine 'Model Press,' has unveiled its highly anticipated annual compilation, the 'Face of the Year (今年の顔).'
The 'Face of the Year' is a distinguished roster of individuals who left a significant mark throughout the year, meticulously selected by the discerning Model Press editorial team and the public. This year, the magazine has spotlighted a noteworthy ensemble of 16 figures who have notably shaped the landscape of the Japanese entertainment industry.
The entire list is full of Japanese citizens except for two exceptions. Adding a global flair to the list, two familiar names from the K-pop industry have made their mark. Notably, the year 2023 witnessed an exceptional journey for Jungkook and NewJeans, as they captivated the music industry with their chart-topping hits.
K-netizens were impressed with the global popularity of Jungkook and NewJeans and commented, "Congrats to Jungkook and NewJeans!" "KookJeans congratulations!" "Jungkook is really amazing," "Wow, it's really impressive how NewJeans made it on the list, did they even officially debut in Japan?" "Jungkook is really popular in Japan," and "NewJeans are rookies and still made it to the list. Congrats!"
Insane NewJeans is even on this list when mind you they have not even officially debuted in Japan. Just goes to show to continual blurring of lines of K-pop where Japanese fans are eating up music releases regardless of whether the music is in Japanese or not.
