Korean netizens have keenly observed a notable surge in Spotify listeners for aespa following the release of their English single, "Better Things."
Over the recent years, the global listener base of K-pop has substantially increased, with Korean artists cultivating an extensive network of fans from all corners of the world. Catering to this diverse demographic, it has become more common for idols to release tracks entirely in English, making their music more accessible to listeners who may not be familiar with Korean.
This trend has been particularly noticeable in the rise of Spotify listeners for the group aespa. While numerous K-pop bands boast of a considerable global listenership, aespa never exceeded 400,000 monthly Spotify listeners in the past.
However, following their release of the English single "Better Things," the group's Spotify monthly listenership skyrocketed to 757,000, nearly doubling of their previous numbers.
Peak monthly listeners for girl groups on Spotify:
FIFTY FIFTY - 2.16 million monthly listeners
NewJeans - 2.08 million monthly listeners
BLACKPINK - 1.55 million monthly listeners
TWICE - 995k monthly listeners
aespa - 757k monthly listeners
K-netizens are now expecting aespa to steadily gain more listeners worldwide as they are making a comeback next month in November.
Korean netizens commented, "That's going to be really good for SM," "But their last single was really good," "Charming super girl group aespa, fighting!" "NewJeans is amazing," "Whatever it is, hope aespa does well," and "Fighting for aespa."
Because SM has always have this obsession to make a global girl group....
