Lee Sun Gyun's past remarks have come to light following the news of the police investigation. 

Back in 2019, Lee Sun Gyun said "Aside from everything else, there are things that I'm personally disappointed about this incident. Above all, I think this is what makes people tired, because seeing such similar issues arise constantly must be tiring." in an interview for the movie 'Bad Police.' 

At that time, former Big Bang member Seungri and Jung Joon Young, and more, were under investigation for procuring prostitution and distributing illegal sex videos. Additionally, cases of sexual assault and illegal drug use were surfacing, causing much controversy. He was vocal about social issues even in the interview for the film. 

Just 4 years later, however, Lee Sun Gyun is at the center of the said type of controversy, calling into question the authenticity of his interview.

Previously in July of this year, Lee Sun Gyun shared the story behind the renowned film 'Parasite.' 

Here, he talks about an incident that shows how he was careful not to be embroiled in any controversy to work with director Bong Joon Ho. In the anecdote, there was a time when Lee Sun Gyun and his colleagues, including his wife actress Jeon Hye Jin were drinking at a restaurant. There was a group of drunk men in their 20s next to their table and they became rude when they recognized Song Gang Ho. They all left the bar but Lee Sun Gyun left his phone so his manager went back inside. 

That group of men in their 20s started arguing with his manager and Lee Sun Gyun went back inside to de-escalate the situation. But when things got heated, Jeon Hye Jin shouted out from their car "Get back in! Bong Joon Ho!" and Lee Sun Gyun says her shouting knocked him back into his senses. The relevant segment starts around the 24:00 minute. 

Netizens reacted, "He was so careful because he wanted to be in 'Parasite,' but I guess he doesn't feel bad for the people he is working with now," "He knows so well not to be embroiled in any controversy but still did drugs with random women," "Ironic that he was actually doing drugs and stuff while saying the different thing," "Seems like without his wife he would have been wilding out years ago."

Meanwhile, the police plan to summon Lee Sun Gyun the following week for further investigation, including a hair follicle drug test.
