Actor Jo In Sung delivered a humble and heartwarming message at a recent public event.
The occasion was the 13th Beautiful Artist Awards ceremony, which was held on October 24 at Stage 28 in Godeok-dong, Seoul. Jo In Sung was the proud recipient of the Good People Artist Award, a prestigious honor bestowed upon artists who have made noteworthy positive contributions.
The award ceremony was orchestrated by the Shin Young Kyun Art & Culture Foundation.
Standing on the award stage, Jo In Sung stated, "I feel embarrassed and shameless. My motivations for volunteering and donating were originally born from somewhat selfish beginnings. Even receiving such an esteemed award, I can't help but feel a sense of shame."
To explain his feelings, he continued, "I have been fortunate enough to have a successful acting career and have received more love and wealth than I could have ever imagined." He revealed, "I was advised by the elders around me that it's easy to become obsessed with money, but the real challenge is to remove its 'poison'. They told me that if I managed to do this, blessings would undoubtedly follow. So, with a somewhat selfish motive, I began to donate in an attempt to remove this 'poison' from my wealth."
Jo In Sung further mused, "I learned that when this 'poison' is utilized correctly, it can transform into a powerful medicine. I believe that this 'medicine' has become vital for hospitals and individuals in need, which is likely why I have been honored with this prestigious award."
He graciously concluded, "I suppose there's no 'poison' in this prize money, and the temptation to use it for personal gains is there. However, I plan to continue my philanthropic journey and donate this money to those in need. I am incredibly grateful for this recognition."
Jo In Sung has a commendable record of active involvement in philanthropic activities, including aiding young patients at the Seoul Asan Hospital and supporting treatment costs for rare pediatric diseases for over 12 years. He has also been instrumental in international relief activities, notably sponsoring the building of schools in economically disadvantaged regions of Tanzania, Africa.
The awards ceremony also honored other artists. Lee Jung Jae received the Film Artist Award, Lee Soon Jae bagged the Theater Artist Award, Director Lim Kwon Taek was given the Meritorious Artist Award, and Kim Seo Hyung took home the Independent Film Artist Award.
