Nine months after the release of "The Name Chapter: Temptation," TXT is back with a follow-up to their name-chapter, "The Name Chapter: FREEFALL." In this chapter, HYBE Entertainment's hottest 4th generation group - comprising Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai - decided to say goodbye to Neverland and Peter Pan.
Taking a step forward in finding themselves, this album has a variety of sounds to it, most of which are new sounds for the quintet. Since their debut in 2019, the group has consistently proven that they can pull off anything thrown at them, and this time, they're taking things a step further.
Kicking off their discography with "Crown," they have continued down the magical (yet pretty dark) path up until recently, with The Name Chapter, where they have given up freedom and joy to achieve growth and maturity. This chapter is about a phase where they choose to solidify their identity and name as they grow into adulthood.
In Temptation's last track, TXT explicitly bid farewell to their beloved dream and fantasy with "Farewell, Neverland," and had this new release open with "Growing Pain," a song that not only introduces the growing pains that come with the reality of growing up, but also the group's first venture into heavy metal. If you thought you had seen rockstar TXT at their core in "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)," you're in it for a surprise with "Growing Pain' as it goes much harder.
The title track, "Chasing That Feeling," is a driving, 1980s New Wave sound pop track with fun synths, that would make you feel like it should be the new OST for 'Stranger Things.' Although the retro trend has been going around more often these days, the group did not fail to add their magical sparkle to the song and make it sound quintessentially TXT.
"Back For More (TXT Ver.)" was a pre-release track, where they collaborated with Brazilian singer, Anitta. They brought the song to the MTV VMAs in September. In this TXT version, this disco-vibe track now has a dance break in it.
"Dreamer," similar to its title, this track is a melodic R&B with the sweetest falsettos that will transport you back to dreamland because of the 'dreamy feeling' it has.
"Deep Down" is a mellow EDM pop track that reminds you of the 2010s EDM. This Jersey Club track would definitely be a great one to jam to at a club. The song also has a super cute trend on TikTok, that was inspired by the "Tube Girl," on the same platform.
"Happily Ever After" is a fun, playful pop track. If "Happy Fools" were to have a little sister, this one would definitely be it. Oh, and did I mention - Yeonjun's "Oh My God," will have you gasping too.
"Skipping Stones" is certainly a track that beautifully showcases their vocals. Their falsettos, strong chest vocals, and especially Hueningkai's high note towards the song's end will have you completely enamored. The band-sound will have you think of Day 6 and how this should be released back in "Minisode 1."
Never forgetting fans in everything they do, "Blue Spring" is a testament to that. This track is not only a simple 'fan song,' but their love letter to the ones who have always been there for them since day one. They wrote and composed this song to sing to MOA, and in return, MOA sang every single word back to them even before the song was properly released.
Another collaboration track on this release is "Do It Like That." If you ever want your K-Pop world to collide with your 2007 boy crush, they have you covered. This funky pop track was released back in July and had fans dancing up on top of their cars... not literally.
MV Review
In "Sugar Rush Ride," the boys were seen to still be in Neverland, but in this one, they seem to not have any more time for fairytales. TXT came back down from Neverland to the graffitied streets of where you would call reality to achieve your dreams. The music video concept had a powerful superhero concept to it, especially 'Dr. Strange.'
Not leaving behind the magical touch of what TXT is known for, some parts of the video looked like they were in a Harry Potter film, too. You can never shake off the magic in them. These boys can still make growing up look so magical, and maybe that's what is so magical about Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai -- they will make every step you take with them as magical as ever.
