Actor Kang Hoon, conveyed his process and efforts in transforming into a youthful high school student for Netflix's original series 'A Time Called You,' even at his current age of 32. In an interview held at a café in Seoul, Kang Hoon engaged in an enlightening conversation, discussing various anecdotes from his filming experience.
'A Time Called You' tells the unexpected time-travelling tale of Junhee (played by Jeon Yeo Bin), who finds herself drawn back to the year 1998 after losing her beloved partner. By sheer coincidence, she stumbles upon Si Heon (Ahn Hyo Seop), who bears an uncanny resemblance to her late lover, and Si Heon's friend, In Gyu (Kang Hoon). This Korean drama is adapted from the original Taiwanese series.
In the series, Kang Hoon had to depict a lively 18-year-old high school student named In Gyu, despite being significantly older in real life. The actor was born in 1991, making him 32 years old while shooting. He commented on the experience saying, “Putting on a school uniform did not invoke pressure but instead brought on nostalgia. I imagined that wearing the uniform would take me back to my school days, but I actually felt the metamorphosis into a student from the moment I stepped onto the set."
He continued, expressing his feelings with humor, "Recalling my school memories and integrating them into my performance often occurred. I received varied feedback - while some stated that I was convincing as a high schooler, others disagreed. However, I chose not to pay much attention to those negatives."
He also revealed there was no special secret to achieving a youthful appearance. He attested, "I exercised a lot but soon realized it was not a common habit among school-aged adolescents. I decided to refrain from extensive workouts and focused on weight loss instead." He was successful in losing 8kg to portray his teenage character authentically and to fit the general physique of the students around him.
Kang Hoon stands at a tall height of 184cm (6.1ft) and slimmed down to 66kg (~145lbs) for the role. He remarked, "My usual weight fluctuates around 74kg (~163lbs). Being lean seemed appropriate for a student's role. Even though I did exercise during my school days, I was relatively skinny. Most of my friends were either overweight or skinny," he shared, further explaining his commitment to portray his teenage character without causing any discomfort for viewers.
It was a good story. This was expected in my opinion. I just recently used the plagiarism checker, I found https://edubirdie.com/plagiarism-checker for this. Nothing has disappeared from his memory yet. That's why he didn't even have to play. This is my opinion, it may not coincide with others.
