Rocket Punch is a six-member girl group under Woollim Entertainment, consisting of Sohee, Juri, Suyun, Dahyun, Yeonhee, and Yunkyoung. They recently made their first comeback since the release of 'Flash' in August 2022 with the third  single album 'BOOM.'

'BOOM' is their first 2023 album release, and it's filled with songs that showcase Rocket Punch's cute and powerful charms. The title song, "BOOM," is a dance-pop genre song with an addictive synth sound and rhythmic bass - a powerful song with a bouncy rhythm and catchy melody. Aside from the main track, 'BOOM' also includes "Alive" and "Give Me Your Heart."

In celebration of Rocket Punch's awaited return, the girls caught up with allkpop to talk about 'BOOM,' the reason why they are loved, and more. Keep reading the interview below!

allkpop: First of all, congratulations on your return with 'BOOM'! Your previous mini-album was released more than a year ago, and now, you plan to return with a single album! Please tell us more about the album. Could you let us know the message you'd like to deliver with 'BOOM,' as well as the tracks on the album?

SUYUN: Our third single album ‘BOOM’ has “BOOM,” the first track, “Alive,” the second track, and “Give Me Your Heart,” the third track. 

YEONHEE: Our title song “BOOM” shows Rocket Punch’s various charms and fresh mood, which our KETCHY waited for a long time, that perfectly matched with the summer. So please love BOOM which contains Rocket Punch’s energy!

allkpop: You have the 'Color Collection' series for your mini-albums! I was wondering since you already released albums with the colors "PINK," "RED," "BLUE," and "YELLOW," and each of these has different concepts. If you could name the color for ‘BOOM’ album, what would you name it and why?

DAHYUN: Because it has powerful yet cute feelings, I will say dark pink. The color has a high-teen mood too, so I think the color matched well with it.

JURI: Because it is fresh and twinkly, I would say orange. 

allkpop: It's been a year since your previous single album, 'FLASH.' Then a few weeks later, you released your Japanese album! How's your experience working again on new music, given that this is your first Korean music release in more than a year? How was the flow of your comeback preparations? Do you have any fun stories from preparing for the album in general — from the MV filming to song recording?

SUYUN: We came back after almost 1 year, so I guess KETCHY had waited so long. With that, we prepared our album with excitement and anxiety. We prepared ‘BOOM’ with full confidence and excitement because we are really good at this vibe and mood, but also because of our curiosity about your reactions toward the album.

JURI: There were so many fun episodes. This time we did a lot of acting in our music video. The most memorable scene was when SUYUN and YEONHEE bumped into each other in the hallway. It was kind of a dramatic scene. It was a really, really funny scene.

allkpop: Has being an idol been your dream ever since? If you were not an idol, what would you be doing now?

YUNKYOUNG: Since I was little, my dream was to be an idol. And because I did my best to fulfill my dream, I was able to meet our Rocket Punch members. I am really happy right now. However, if I were not an idol, maybe I would be a kindergarten teacher because I love children. I would be majoring in Early Childhood Education. 

SOHEE: In my case, since I was little, I have liked to decorate myself. So maybe I would be a make-up artist or stylist. Maybe majoring in Design. However, I naturally dreamed of being an idol and now, I have become one of Rocket Punch’s members.

allkpop: During interviews, you always mention how you love showing everyone else your true selves and colors through music and stage performances. How do you work toward achieving this goal time by time? How do you work to show your improvements as time goes by and every time you make a comeback?

SOHEE: I practice a lot on my facial expressions. Because I want to show various sides and look comfortable on the stage, I focus on practicing my facial expressions and gestures.

DAHYUN: First, I focus on developing my skills. As I focus on that, having good teamwork and self-confidence naturally follows, and I am sure that many people will know about it.

allkpop: Why do you think Rocket Punch is loved?

YEONHEE: Well, many people who love us always say that they get strength and get cheered up through Rocket Punch’s songs. Singing songs and doing performances that only Rocket Punch can do make us naturally like our songs and performances. We want to continue to be an artist that can give strength and energy to people.

allkpop: It's evident that you love doing shows like fan meetings, to perform in front of your fans! Do you have any plans on holding a solo concert again? Maybe a tour?

DAHYUN: If there’s an opportunity, of course, we want to do it! We never held a concert until now, so we want to have our first concert. We also want to do our world tour because many other overseas fans don't have a chance to meet us often, so we want to travel around and meet them and have a fun time with them.

allkpop: Are there any performances or content that you want to show, such as song covers, dance covers, etc.?

YUNKYOUNG: Firstly, as Rocket Punch, our fans have liked all the covers that we have done so far. So, we have confidence in showing whichever cover they request from us. Personally, I once mentioned to fans that I sang Ben’s “Like a Dream” for my audition. And I am wondering what it would be like to sing it now, 6 years later. So, I want to sing that song once again. 

YEONHEE: That would be a surprise! Our fans have been asking us to perform our B-side tracks we have for the past 4 years. If we held our first concert, I wonder how great it would be if we could show all those songs to our fans. 

allkpop: Lastly, is there anything else you would like to say to allkpop readers and your fans worldwide?

YEONHEE: allkpop readers, Rocket Punch had a comeback with our third single album, ‘BOOM.’ Since it is a comeback after a long time, it is an album full of Rocket Punch’s energy. So please look forward to our ‘BOOM’ comeback.
