BLACKPINK's concert venue will have a stringent crackdown team deployed to halt the circulation and trading of counterfeit merchandise like light sticks often sold in such large-scale events.
The Special Trademark Police, a unique enforcement unit under the Patent Office, is set to comb through the concert venue, the 'BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK]' finale concert, scheduled for September 16 and 17 at the Gochuck Sky Dome in Seoul's Guro-gu district.
The so-called 'Trademark Police' will conduct a complete sweep of the vicinity surrounding the primary entrances to the concert venue and the associated subway stations in an attempt to thwart the sale of counterfeit goods. This crackdown is backed by the Patent Office's monitoring efforts since the previous month that confirmed the sale of numerous counterfeit BLACKPINK-related products, primarily online.
The Patent Office has been monitoring counterfeit BLACKPINK-related products sold online since last month and confirmed that many counterfeit goods were being circulated. Some of these products were created by sellers who were not affiliated with the agency and were not official merchandise, including light sticks.
Based on the information collected during monitoring, the Trademark Police conducted planned investigations against large-scale and repeat sellers, and took actions such as deleting posts and accounts of sellers who posted counterfeit product trading listings online.
It has been discerned that these counterfeit goods are, more often than not, sold intensively at the concert venue on the day of the event. Keeping that in mind, a comprehensive surveillance plan has been outlined for the day of the concert itself.
The head of the Special Trademark Police, Park Ju Yeon, commented on the issue, "As K-culture continues to gain global recognition and clout, an increasing number of counterfeit goods distributors try to take undue advantage of it." Park expressed optimism that an authentic culture could be established via this crackdown. She further elaborated, "The Patent Office will constantly scrutinize and mitigate trademark infringement related to K-culture."
BLACKPINK, who have been on a grand tour spanning 34 cities worldwide over 11 months, will end their 64-performance run with this concert in Seoul. It will also provide them an opportunity to interact with their domestic fans, whom they haven't met for almost a year.
BLACKPINK's World Tour Finale concert is scheduled for 7 PM on September 16 and 6 PM on September 17 at the Gochuck Sky Dome.
To think YG have calculated they're losing enough money to knockoffs that they're actually going to make a profit from paying their own Counterfeit Cops to run around concerts all day.
