Former LOONA member Chuu is facing backlash for her recent remarks about Tanghulu, a trending snack in South Korea.

The controversy began when a video of Chuu enjoying a Tanghulu Mukbang was shared across various social media platforms. 

In the video, the PD (producer/director) asked Chuu if it was her first time trying Tanghulu, to which she replied, "Yes."

However, it was her subsequent comments that sparked outrage.  Chuu expressed her concern about the snack being sold on the streets, describing it as "unhealthy." She went further, stating, "It seemed unhealthy on the street, so I thought kids who eat something like that would die a little earlier." 

These remarks were made during her appearance on the YouTube show 'School Bells Ringing,' hosted by YouTuber Jenny Park, and the video quickly garnered over 1.8 million views.

Many netizens pointed out that Chuu's comments seemed careless and insensitive, especially considering the current popularity of Tanghulu in Korea, particularly among the MZ (Millennial and Generation Z) generation.

Netizens who came across the video expressed their displeasure, questioning Chuu's judgment and suggesting that such remarks were inappropriate to make for someone in the public eye. 

They highlighted that while Tanghulu is a beloved snack enjoyed by many, there are individuals who make a living by selling it, and Chuu's comments seemed dismissive and hurtful.

However, others defended Chuu, arguing that her concerns about street food being less healthy due to potential exposure to smoke and dust were valid. Others shared their preferences about Tanghulu, with some expressing dislike due to its sugary nature, while others argued it can be part of a balanced diet.

Tanghulu is a treat made by coating different fruits on a stick with sugar and starch syrup, freezing them, and serving them. Its popularity has led to the opening of specialized Tanghulu stores and its availability on delivery food applications in Korea.
