Singer Rain was met with an awkward(?) situation during his performance at K-CON LA.
During the recent K-CON held in Los Angeles, singer Rain also attended as a performing guest. While Rain showed off his usual dancing and singing skills, including his firm physique by going topless, the audience members were surprisingly quiet during the performance. Shouts of support or fan chants were not heard, with even some audience members purposefully turning off their lightsticks to show that they do not support Rain. One netizen speculated that this might be due to the fact that all idol groups managed by Rain seem to end up disbanded or mismanaged. The netizen wrote, "There were even people who purposely turned off their lightsticks The reason is because [Rain] always debuts idol groups with the [marketing] premise of producing for them, but he always abandons the group without taking any responsibility. So the foreign fans hate him because of that".
For context, Rain is well-known for having actively promoted and trained the idol group MBLAQ back in 2009, until two members Thunder and Lee Joon left the group in 2014. MBLAQ's past music show trophies for winning #1 was later found to be sold in street flea markets, which led to many fans angered at how their agency was managing the group following the departure of the two members. MBLAQ also discontinued their activities shortly after the two members left the group. Just recently, it was reported that four members of Ciipher, another group managed and promoted by Rain, had officially left the group - Tan, Tag, Dohwan and Won. The remaining three Ciipher members await future individual activities or possibly a new team creation, but things are up in the air as of now. The poor management of all groups affiliated with Rain seem to have shed negative light on Rain.
Some netizens who attended K-CON LA and witnessed the audience situation during Rain's performance, took to online communities and platforms to share their perspectives on Rain's performance.
