KBS has recently announced its decision to hold the year-end event, 'KBS Gayo Daechukje (Song Festival),' in both Japan and Korea.
Initially, the event was planned to take place at Veruna Dome (Seibu Dome) in Japan, but due to controversy, it has been decided to hold the event on two separate occasions.
According to a report by StarNews on August 1, KBS will organize the 'Song Festival' at Veruna Dome in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, on December 9 as scheduled. One week later, on December 16, the same performance will take place in Korea. However, the venue for the Korean concert has not been finalized yet, and discussions are currently underway.
The 'Song Festival' is a significant event that aligns with the year-end awards ceremony season, bringing together singers who have been active throughout the year. Most of these events have traditionally occurred at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Last year, they were held at the Jamsil Sports Complex indoor gymnasium in Songpa-gu.
Earlier in June, StarNews reported that the event would be held in Japan at the end of the year, catching many people by surprise and sparking some dissatisfaction. Some expressed their concern about KBS, a public broadcaster, holding the event in Japan, leading to a petition titled 'Against Japan for Song Festival' at the KBS Viewer's Center.
In response to the petition, KBS Production 2 Headquarters Entertainment Center released an official statement on the 19th of last month, indicating the possibility of hosting the event overseas but not explicitly confirming Japan as the venue.
The statement highlighted KBS's efforts to promote K-pop Hallyu globally and introduce new Hallyu stars through shows like 'Music Bank' and 'Music Bank World Tour.' The year-long pandemic had previously hindered K-pop overseas performances, but with the situation improving, global fans' demands to see Korean singers in person have risen dramatically.
KBS mentioned that they are continuously planning and considering expanding the 'Gayo Daechukje' into the 'Music Bank World Tour-Global Festival' (tentative title), aiming to cater to audiences worldwide while providing richer K-pop programs for domestic fans.
As the event is now set to be held in both Japan and Korea, StarNews reported that the event's title might be changed to reflect this new arrangement. KBS is currently discussing the details, including the event title, through internal meetings. The recordings of both performances are expected to be broadcasted at the end of the year, but the exact broadcast date has not yet been confirmed.
Shows held in Japan are so annoying because they never record fancams for one reason or another.
