Singer Jeon So Mi is facing plagiarism issues over an illustrated character which appears in her "Fast Forward" MV.
Soon after the release of the MV on August 7 KST, some netizens pointed out the similarities between the appearance of an illustrated character in Jeon So Mi's video with a character from the Japanese manga series 'Urusei Yatsura' by Takahashi Rumiko.
In particular, when netizens took the cover image for the first volume of 'Urusei Yatsura' and flipped it horizontally, they found that many of the features of the character from Jeon So Mi's "Fast Forward" MV lined up exactly with the female character on the cover of Takahashi Rumiko's manga. Some went on to raise suspicions that the character from Jeon So Mi's MV was "traced", demanding an explanation from The Black Label.
Meanwhile, Jeon So Mi most recently released her new EP 'Game Plan' on August 7.
I am fairly liberal about letting artist fly fast and lost with inspirations and not crying "plagirism" every time it happens...but Drawing so closely in the style of Rimiko Takahashi (Urasei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha) is not one of the wises moves. Accepting the art work from an artist clearly doing so is also not so wise, unless you have a very good explanation, and very clear concept of why this should work.
