On July 12, Dara sat down with 1theK Originals' 'Look Me Up' and searched for her own name on the web. She went through various platforms to confirm or debunk the information provided by the web portals.
On the YouTube show, Dara engaged in a heartfelt discussion about her illustrious career, tracing her journey from her debut in the Philippines to her successful stint with 2NE1. Of special note was her conversation about the recording process for 2NE1's final album.
The production team asked, "Did you know it was the final album when you were recording it?" To which Dara replied, "I didn't know at the time. I did wonder, 'Is this the last time?' when we were recording 'Missing You.' The reason I thought it was the last song was because we released single albums with the songs 'Falling In Love' and 'Do you love me.' The company said 2NE1 is over now..."
She continued to elaborate, "I think we were number 10 on the chart? We were always number 1, but now we were number 10. We were sad, the fans and the agency were sad too. They said, 'This album isn't going to work, let's stop promoting now.' I'm not sure if it was a joke or something he said because he was upset."
Dara added, "But we went to record 'Missing You' after we shared that conversation, the last lyrics were ('let's remember each other even after a long time,') too much like breaking up ('We had each other back then), so Bom and I cried for hours in the recording studio after until our eyes got swollen. However, the song suddenly reached number 1 so we were relieved and enjoyed the promotion thinking 'it's not the last time'."
She continued, "But then, the album 'CRUSH' unexpectedly became our last album.'
After watching the latest episode of 'Look Me Up,' many fans couldn't help but feel anger towards the label. Many felt that 2NE1 was forced to stop promotions. Netizens commented in a popular online community, "YG really is..." "Oh my," "I still don't understand why YG did this to 2NE1, they were the best girl group of that time," "I'm still speechless about what YG did back then," "The members definitely wanted to continue to promote together," "YG is trash for sure," "This is so crazy. I feel so bad for the members," "This makes me so mad. They were the first girl group I liked and I still like them," and "I got shocked because YG at one point acted like 2NE1 didn't exist."
WTF Missing You was recorded at the latest in the fall of 2013! The group was only FOUR years old back then, and Do You Love Me was literally the only 2NE1 title track out of 10+ that didn’t get #1 on the charts and there is no reason for the group to be “over” when they’re only halfway through their contract. Why was YG already saying 2NE1 was over as early as 2013??? Was the sabotage even bigger than we thought? I hope YG burns to the ground idec
