The entertainment firm Uzurocks, presently entangled in a legal battle over actress Song Ji Hyo's unpaid wages, has formally addressed the issue with a public statement.
In their announcement on June 14, Uzurocks expressed sincere regret over the situation. The company stated, "Despite our prior assurance to resolve the outstanding salary issue within a 10-day period, we deeply regret to report that we have been unable to uphold this commitment due to unforeseen delays in payments."
Acknowledging their responsibility to resolve the issue, Uzurocks further declared, "We are actively working towards a swift resolution and aim to finalize all arrangements by the 30th of next month."
Uzurocks additionally revealed that they have initiated communication with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, providing necessary documentation and clarification regarding the wage grievances reported by the employees. They further mentioned that several employees have already undergone investigations and reached conclusions, while the rest are pending correspondence from the labor supervisor.
In order to facilitate the resolution process, Uzurocks emphasized their proactive cooperation by providing accurate explanations and supporting evidence for the employees' claims.
Additionally, Uzurocks stated, "We are currently implementing various measures to enhance the company's management stability, including improvements in our profit structure and cost reduction. These initiatives aim to promote economic stability and establish a foundation for sustainable growth."
Previously, Uzurocks faced allegations of unpaid wages to its artists and staff, citing financial difficulties. During this period, it was revealed that Song Ji Hyo, who had signed an exclusive contract with Uzurocks in October of 2022, had also not received approximately 900 million KRW (707,000 USD), including appearance fees.
In response, Uzurocks clarified, "The quarterly settlements for artists will proceed as scheduled without any issues." However, Song Ji Hyo's side filed a complaint in May, accusing Uzurocks of repeatedly violating promised payment dates, thereby violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement).
Song Ji Hyo's actions were also commended, as she personally covered living expenses for employees who had not received their wages from the agency.
