Are there too many dance challenges in K-Pop?
One netizen recently expressed their dislike for the sheer number of dance challenges in the K-Pop scene, arguing that they are often reliant on luck and are not a natural expression of popularity. They also criticized the songs themselves, saying that they are starting to sound like plastic music designed for short social media posts. The poster's full write-up reads:
"It's not like everyone wants to do the dance because it naturally gained popularity
They just try to punch out dozens of dances so that one of them can go viral out of luck
They don't look like singers or artists but TikTokers...
The songs are also slowly turning into plastic music designed for shorts
The dances are also made especially for TikTok and (YouTube) Shorts
And they don't film the dances by running into each other by coincidence
I've heard that they invite people from other companies to film the videos...
I am not repulsed by challenges because my brain can't take it anymore"
To this post, netizens argued both in favor and against the opinion, with the latter finding itself in the top-voted sections. The netizens opposing the post shared comments such as:
"But aren't challenges supposed to be marketing tactics lol there are so many people that become fans just because of the challenges haha I like it because I get to see different concepts of the same song"
"Isn't it honestly because people don't like to see boy groups and girl groups meeting up together...? lol"
"It's only because you don't like to see your oppa filming those videos with female idols lol"
"If you don't like it, then you don't have to watch it. What's the problem?"
"I like it because my group does a lot of challenges. The videos come up due to the algorithms, so you can just block the ones you don't like"
On the other hand, several netizens wrote critical observations such as:
"What's funny though is that the real top idols like IVE and NewJeans don't even do a lot of challenges lol I think it's more effective to release good songs rather than aiming for TikTok challenges"
"It's inevitable though...such an economical marketing tactic"
"Why don't some of them practice singing instead of spending their time filming challenges though...their encore stages are so seriously flawed"
"I am also tired of watching dozens of challenges for every idol's song"
"I get that they want to film a lot of challenges, but paying other YouTubers or TikTokers to do their challenge as a marketing tactic just looks like a cheap ploy"
"I'm okay with about four, but anything more than that makes the song look cheap"
Meanwhile, the original poster responded to the assumption about the repulsion against girl groups and wrote:
"My bias group is a girl group. And I'm not saying that they should just completely stop the challenges but that my brain is just tired of them."
What are your thoughts?
I think that if they don't like them they don't have to watch? No-one is forcing anyone else to watch a video, never mind dozens of videos of different people dancing the same moves to the same song.
.
Honestly, what is wrong with people? They'll complain about everything and anything, but not do the obvious to solve the problem.
