The Netflix live-action trailer for 'One Piece' has not been received positively by Korean netizens.
Online forums and social media outlets have shown widespread disappointment with the famous Japanese animation series, which has garnered substantial popularity in Korea since the 2000s. On average, the franchise generates around 10 billion won in profit every year.
The official trailer, which was released on June 18, has garnered mostly negative reactions from viewers. Many felt that the animation "should have stayed as an animation," while several others thought the cinematic version was "just strange" and "looked like a cosplay party." Some even went as far as saying that it was the "perfect horror film for the summer" and "should never see the light of day."
Many compared the poor quality of the adaptation to ordinary people's cosplays, which they believed were usually done better than most live-action movie versions. Others couldn't believe that this was 'One Piece' and noted that 'Death Note' was the only animation that succeeded as a film.
Fans of both 'One Piece' and Netflix are continuously sharing words of disappointment while only a few are expressing anticipation for the full movie.
