After making waves in the music industry, BLACKPINK's Jennie has taken on the challenge in the acting realm. She recently made her debut in the highly anticipated HBO series 'The Idol.'
While her appearance in the series garnered attention, it also sparked a heated debate among K-netizens due to a provocative dance scene that left many questioning the appropriateness of the portrayal.

K-netizens' reactions to these provocative dance scenes have been uniform in various online communities. There was a considerable portion of K-netizens who expressed discomfort and concern over the explicit nature of the scene.
Many netizens directed the criticism toward the drama itself and not Jennie.
K-netizens commented, "I kind of see why this drama has low ratings, aside from Jennie's performance," "The dance moves are a problem too but her facial expressions... I understand why people say it's like porn," "I think V would be disappointed..." "I don't know why Jennie decided to appear on this show, I don't know what the agency was doing not stopping her," "Isn't this too much? What are the drama producers thinking?," "There's no way Jennie didn't know...Idol's image is so important so I'm pretty sure she had to find out what she's getting herself into," and "What's with her facial expression, she looks like she's really doing it."
This is so off brand for her. Like, I understand that it’s an acting role in a HBO series so it’s a huge opportunity, but this makes no sense from a branding perspective. Jennie’s branding has always been on the thin line between sexy and elegant. Even her CK collection, which had her in underwear for the advertisements, was elegant. This just isn’t it. This show needed Jennie for the hype, but Jennie didn’t need this show for her career. Bad move.
