Netizens are reacting to EVERGLOW Yiren's activities.
On an online community, K-netizens commented on photos of Yiren taken in the backstage of '2023 Dream Concert,' where the girl group performed as a full group. Previously, Yiren stirred up a cultural controversy when she refrained from bowing at a Korean fan meeting in the New Year and then soon departed to China.
The controversy continued as Yiren was embroiled in yet another issue involving China, such as sharing posts favoring the 'One China' principle.
In the recent original Twitter post, Yiren wrote: "I'm in such a good mood~~~~."
Meanwhile, comments in the forum post include:
"Is it possible to suddenly leave and then come back when they want to? Everyone just lets her do that?"
"The 4th gen meanwhile ate up the scene"
"The visuals aren't enough; even if Xiaoting may be prettier and is good at dancing, she can't gain that much popularity. Since Yiren left for China and enjoyed life there, it's a grateful case for people to give her so much attention"
"I thought she left...?"
"I thought she departed from the group"
"I think it's better for her to go back"
"She's the one who refused to bow, right?"
"I just feel bad for EVERGLOW...their songs are good but they kept having to halt their activities...I think they might have been able to have tours even like LOONA if they just kept going. It was a really important period when Yiren left for China"
"Oh wow, when did she even come back?"
"She was back?"
I hate to say it, because I really like the group, but I fear that Everglow may have possibly lost their window of opportunity. The extended hiatus really hurt them, especially when so many top tier groups have either debuted (Le Sserafim, NewJeans, IVE, etc.) or have continued to grow their brand (G-IDLE, Aespa). Even without Yiren, their company should have been taking that time to promote and grow the brand, but it was like they just fell off. Now it's like the company is trying to use Yiren's return as a way to boost the group, but that ship may have sailed regardless of her return. I wish them well, unless their company has a serious banger to grab the market's attention, I don't believe just bringing Yiren back will be enough.
