The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), has published the 2023 Overseas Hallyu Survey. This comprehensive study encapsulates the Korean cultural experiences of 25,000 individuals aged between 15 and 59 across 26 countries, spanning from November 11, 2022, to December 7, 2022. The geographical diversity of the survey includes nations such as China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Australia, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Egypt.
The research aims to:
-Study the trends of how aware people are about the Korean Wave (also known as Hallyu), and how they interact with and consume Korean content across various countries.
-Measure key factors that can compare how popular Korean content consumption is in each country. This will help to suggest proactive policies to ensure that the popularity of Korean content stays strong and the market continues to grow globally.
-Assess the current state and future growth of the Korean Wave by investigating how well Korean content is recognized and consumed, and the impact it has on consumers outside Korea.
-Gather and analyze data on consumers abroad that is needed by businesses related to the Korean Wave. This data will be crucial in helping these businesses plan their overseas strategies.
Jungkook, with his enduring global popularity, clinched the top spot as the most beloved K-pop idol in seven countries – a distinction held by no other K-pop idol. This achievement also places him third among Korean solo artists, following the internationally renowned Psy and IU. Furthermore, Jungkook secured his position in the top five Hallyu stars, a list that also includes his own group, BTS. Notably, BTS emerged as the most popular Hallyu artist in an impressive 23 out of the 26 surveyed countries.
The report also named Jungkook’s Qatar World Cup soundtrack and performance as one of the major events and topics relating to the Korean Wave.
Jungkook, who continues to earn respect and recognition day-to-day from everyone in the industry, is yet to reach his peak as his debut solo album hasn't been released yet.
