Rapper Swings made a big decision after low ticket sales for the label AP Alchemy concert.
The 'AP ALCHEMY COMPILATION CONCERT IN SEOUL' concert will be held at Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium on June 3. The concert boasts a lineup with many well-known Korean rappers, such as Swings, Giriboy, Kid Milli, Genius Nochang, Black Nut, Han Yo Han, and Chillin Homie.
Poised for a show lasting roughly 150 minutes, tickets for Swings' upcoming concert were originally priced at 99,000 KRW (approximately 74.70 USD), with a venue capacity to hold an audience of 5,000. However, 4,101 seats were still unsold on the second day of ticket sales on May 13 at 9:00 am.
Faced with the slower-than-anticipated ticket sales, Swings made an unexpected decision. On May 17, he took to Instagram to share a video where he made a surprising announcement about the concert.
He started by saying, "Hello. It's me. Swings. Today, I'm going to talk about the AP concert on June 3.... I made a miscalculation. Looking at the current ticket sales, it's not ideal. So I want to take responsibility."
Swings continued to say, "You thought I would say, 'I'm going to cancel this performance and go into hiding.' No. I'm going to change it to a free event."
He elaborated, "What this means is that we're not going to take any money. Just come and enjoy (the show)."
Swings also talked about the people who had already bought tickets and shared that he will refund their ticket money and reserve seats for them.
He concluded by saying, "So 5,000 people will have free seats. That' right. This is on me. Bring safe shoes and water. But promise me one thing. You have to listen to our music a lot before coming. It'll be more fun after you've learned the songs."
The way he handled it is commendable actually, it allows the artists to get a good reputation for performing for free and also encourages the public to check out their music. Plus like he said he didn't cower away from the reality of the situation.
