Comedian Seo Se Won passed away in Cambodia on April 20; he was 67 years old.
According to reports, Seo Se Won, who had been residing in Cambodia for business purposes, received an IV injection at a Korean hospital in Cambodia and was discovered deceased.
Seo Se Won first entered the limelight in 1979 through the TBC Radio Gag Contest and rose to prominence as the host of a talk show, thanks to his clever wit. At the time, most comedians in Korea primarily used physical slapstick humor, allowing Seo Se Won to quickly capture the public's attention and become popular.
Some of his notable works include 'Youth March' and 'Sunday Sunday Night.' Additionally, Seo Se Won's 'Star Date' was a program that invited famous celebrities to talk and have fun and was one of the first celebrity talk shows. KBS received great attention with the show he hosted. Seo Se Won also won the Male TV Entertainment Award at the 24th Baeksang Arts Awards in 1988, the KBS Comedy Award in 1995, and the Male Comedian Award in the individual category at the 24th Korea Broadcasting Awards in 1997.
Seo Se Won was not just a comedian, but he also showed interest in film production. He directed 'Journey' himself and participated in producing about 10 films, including the movie 'My Wife is a Gangster.' However, apart from "My Wife Is a Gangster," none of the films he produced were big hits.
In the 2000s, Seo Se Won's reputation as a comedian took a hit due to a series of incidents. He faced suspicions of embezzlement of film production costs, plagiarism from 'Seo Se Won Show,' and suspicions of gambling.
In 2014, a video of him assaulting his then-wife, Seo Jung Hee, shocked the public. Seo Se Won and Seo Jung Hee were married in 1982 and divorced in 2015. He married a 23-year-old haegeum (traditional Korean instrument) player in 2016 and was living in Cambodia while undertaking large-scale real estate construction projects, media businesses, hotels, and casinos, as well as being a pastor.
I Did not know that after being a wife beater you can still be a pastor
