TVING series 'Bargain' has made history by becoming the first Korean drama and OTT series to win at the 'Cannes International Series Festival', also known as Canneseries.
At the closing ceremony earlier this week, 'Bargain,' starring Jin Sun Kyu and Jeon Jong Seo, won the award for 'Best Screenplay'. The show is a thriller based on a 2015 short film of the same name, following a dangerous bargain between Noh Hyung Soo and Park Joo Young that turns into a bigger problem when an earthquake hits the building they're in.
Co-written by Choi Byung Yoon, Kwak Jae Min, and director Jeon Woo Sung, the series had its official screening at Cannes on April 16, where it received a standing ovation from the 2,300 audience members. In particular, 'Bargain' was the only Korean content among the invited works in the Cannes International Series Festival.
Major media outlets, such as Le Figaro, have praised the show's unique concept, composition, and villains. In his acceptance speech, director Jeon Woo Sung expressed his honor and gratitude for the recognition, saying, "Byung Yoon! Jae Min! We did it!".
The only Korean content invited to compete at this year's Canneseries, 'Bargain' was released on TVING last October and will be available worldwide on Paramount+ this summer.
Well done, guys
