Actress Yeom Hye Ran, best known for her role in 'The Glory,' graces the pages of ELLE Korea's April issue in a stunning pictorial. The shoot's theme was a happy vacation, where Yeom Hye Ran portrayed Kang Hyun Nam, the character she played in 'The Glory,' taking a well-deserved break in the bright sun. During the pictorial, the staff praised her beautiful smile, to which the actress responded that it would have been better if her onscreen daughter, Sunah, was there with her.
On March 20, ELLE Korea revealed the pictorial of the actress for the April edition of the fashion magazine.
In a subsequent interview, Yeom Hye Ran discussed her approach to playing Kang Hyun Nam, stating that she focused on the character's happy times rather than the dark times. The actress shared, "I thought more about the happy times she went through rather than the dark times. I thought about the brightness of this woman who was born with cheerfulness rather than darkness."
She emphasized that she thought about the brightness of the woman, who was born cheerful and resilient, rather than the darkness in her life. She also shared her admiration for the character's immense growth, both in the drama's Part 1 and 2.
The actress shared that the character fully bloomed in 'The Glory' Part 2. Yeom Hye Ran showed much affection for her character and explained, "It was a character that made me think a lot about what would happen to her after rather than what she went through before. I thought she was a character who showed immense growth."
The actress talked about the depiction of mothers in the drama and how it differs from the usual cliche. She highlighted Kang Hyun Nam's unconditional maternal love and how she learned to stand on her own, grow, and protect her daughter.
She explained, "I think a lot of people are tired of seeing the cliche image of the mother's maternal love, right? I think she (Kang Hyun Nam) shows unconditional maternal love, but that doesn't mean she endured all of this just for the sake of her daughter. I think as Hyun Nam learns to stand on her own she's able to grow and also protect her daughter."
During the interview, Yeom Hye Ran also opened up about her childhood and how she has always been different, making decisions that defy prejudices and stereotypes. She shared, "I think I always wanted to make decisions that are different from others. I was always angry with the adults who have prejudices and stereotypes. But then I said something to my own daughter and she said to me 'Mom, that's prejudice.' At first, I protested against her but later I thought, 'I used to say that a lot'."
When asked about her most beloved ahjumma (middle-aged woman) character, Yeom Hye Ran stated that she admired the courageous ones who raise their voices about their opinions or carry out their actions quietly.
As an actress who is known to play the most iconic 'Ahjummah' characters in various dramas, she explained, "If I were to choose only one, I think the other Ahjummah characters would be disappointed. But I like the Ahjummah characters who are courageous. The characters who know how to raise their voice about their opinions, or those who carry out their actions quietly."
The actress is currently filming for 'The Canny Counter' season 2, and her fans can also look forward to seeing her in the upcoming film 'Bear Man.'
Love her!
