On March 23, a zebra was sighted wandering the streets and residential neighborhoods of downtown Seoul. The animal had escaped from Seoul Children's Grand Park by breaking through a wooden fence in its enclosure. Authorities, including the police and fire departments, are currently working to safely capture the zebra.
The initial report of the loose zebra was received at approximately 2:40 PM. The zebra, born at the park nearly two years ago, managed to break free from its pen and has since been roaming the city.
The zebra was spotted sprinting along Cheonho-daero in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. It maneuvered through the road, dodging pedestrians before finding itself trapped in traffic between a motorcycle and a truck. As the traffic cleared, the zebra managed to break free and continue its escape. Police, fire authorities, and zookeepers from the Grand Park collaborated to apprehend the zebra, setting up safety fences in the residential area of Jayang-dong in Gwangjin-gu.
Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported thus far. This incident is not the first case of an animal escaping from Seoul Children's Grand Park. In April 2005, elephants broke free from the park, causing chaos in nearby residential areas and restaurants. One pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being struck by an escaped elephant, and the ensuing traffic congestion was significant.
Poor thing must have been so scared.
