On February 28 KST, it was confirmed that actor Lee Byung Hun, was subjected to a tax investigation by the National Tax Service last year and was fined 100 million won in taxes.
According to the assessment agency, the National Tax Service conducted an irregular (special) tax audit against Lee Byung Hun and BH Entertainment in September of last year.
BH Entertainment is an entertainment management company founded by Lee Byung Hun in 2006, and is considered a representative success case among one-person agencies.
Unlike normal tax investigations, the National Tax Service's special tax investigation is initiated when the National Tax Service suspects tax evasion against a corporation or individual.
Attention is being focused on the potential reason the National Tax Service imposed an additional fine against Lee Byung Hun. Some pointed out that there is a possibility that it is related to real estate investments using individuals and corporations.
BH Entertainment spoke up about the issue saying, “It is true that the tax was collected by the National Tax Service, but it is not a problem of tax evasion.”
They also went on to explain the additional collection process, "We paid bonuses to all employees with personal money, but the accounting for the part that was treated as company expenses was a problem, and some of the model fees were set aside to donate, which became the subject of additional surcharges."
