Many viewers were shocked after watching the scene when young Moon Dong Eun (played by Song Hye Kyo and Jung Ji So) was bullied by fellow schoolmates.
In the episode that was revealed on December 30, Moon Dong Eun was assaulted by Park Yeon Jin (played by Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun), Jeon Je Joon (played by Park Sung Hoon and Song Byung Keun), Lee Sa Ra (Played by Kim Hieaora and Bae Kang Hee), Choi Hye Jung (played by Cha Joo Young and Song Ji Woo), and Son Myung Ho (played by Kim Gun Woo and Seo Woo Hyun) in high school.
During this scene, the group of bullies is seen burning Moon Dong Eun's arm with a hair iron. After this scene aired, it caused much discussion among the viewers and online community users. All of them praised the actors and their acting skills but also expressed their shock at how cruel this scene was.
What was more shocking is that this bullying scene is based on actual events that occurred in 2006. A female student 'J' was attending a girls' middle school in Cheongju at the time and was routinely assaulted by a group of schoolmates led by 'K.' One day, 'K' burned J's arm with a hair iron, scratched J's chest with a hairpin, and stole her money because J came late when K summoned her. In response, The Cheongju District issued an arrest warrant against the perpetrator, K.
Netizens responded, "If that scene really happened in real life, that's horrific," "It's even scarier these days," and "I'm so shocked that the bullying scene was based on actual events."
Meanwhile, 'The Glory' depicts the desperate revenge of a woman whose soul was shattered by school violence. This is also writer Kim Eun Wook's first drama with Song Hye Kyo in six years since the drama 'Descendants of the Sun' in 2016.
In the drama, Song Hye Kyo plays the school bullying victim who had dreams of becoming an architect but was violently bullied in school because she was poor. In order to exact revenge on her tormentors, she decides to become a school teacher.
I seriously don't understand mentality of people who bully others. Not to mention they are kids. So law also goes easy on them.
