To celebrate his 26th birthday (international age), iKON's main dancer, DK (Kim Donghyuk), communicated with his fans on the weverse platform through an 8-minute live broadcast. He is the first member to communicate with fans live after iKON's six members decided not to renew their contract with YG Entertainment last December 30.
The vocalist expressed his gratitude to iKONICs (iKON's fandom) for their unwavering support and for the countless congratulations he had received on his special day. He also confirmed that he was able to attend some of the birthday events organized by the fans and also saw some ads in different areas. He confessed that he felt excited and grateful. He also commented that he was looking forward to meeting the iKON members on that day since, after 10 years of living together, finally, each member has become independent and lives in their own home.
However, what was hilarious for the fans was that he said that their homes are actually not that far away from each other, confirming once again the strong incomparable bond that characterizes iKON members who even move in the same neighborhood, and it was on purpose.
DK revealed that iKON is preparing for their upcoming comeback as iKON in April, and they have had several meetings to agree on the details related to their new music work. He also stated that they hope to hold more meetings with fans in a short time. There were even some hints that they are planning a tour in Asia after the comeback.
Regarding the group's decision not to renew their contract with YG Entertainment, the artist said, "There must be a lot of fans who were shocked after reading the news. Don't be surprised too much because we kept our promise to you to always be together. Thank you for those who always support iKON". Likewise, some members like Jay (Kim Jinhwan) and Song (Song Yunhyeong) have posted on Instagram their respective messages of thanks to their iKONICs fans who have accompanied them in a long way and to the staff of YG Entertainment for the years that each of them stayed with the agency, 12 years and 10 years respectively.
Kim Jinhwan and Song Yunhyeong thanked their fans and YG staff on Instagram.
iKON left YG Entertainment last December 30, obtaining the rights to their group name, logo, songs, youtube channel, their social media accounts, and all the material belonging to iKON. On December 31st, their exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment was confirmed, and through a Twitter post, the agency welcomed iKON and iKONICs.
Producer DM (143 Entertainment's representative producer) told the media, "we have been watching the iKON members since Mix and Match (The survival program where iKON was born).... And we will help each member unleash their talents to the fullest". Thus confirming the intention to provide individual opportunities for the members as well as to continue their work as a group which is already causing high expectations.
Was surprised on how things were unfolding but then realized I shouldnt be surprised coz their bond has always been that strong.
