The NewJeans "Ditto" music video has sparked interesting theories
On December 19, the highly-anticipated new single album from girl group Ne Jeans was released, leaving fans eager to uncover the hidden messages behind the two accompanying music videos. Many believe that the A version and B version of the video have distinct meanings and that they contain a deeper, more meaningful story.
Starting off with the first theory:
This theory delves into the heartbreaking implications of the Ditto music video, which suggests that the members seen in the video are merely hallucinations and that the members tragically died in a car accident, with only one survivor (a Twitter user speculates that it may have been due to a deer, as one is seen at the end of the MV). Since Heeseo loved taking videos and photos with her camera while the members were still alive, she slowly gets rid of the camera in the B-MV. But eventually, at the end of the B-MV, she still watches back the memories with her members.
Meanwhile, another Twitter user thinks:
another k-bunnies ditto theory trending!
6th girl is a representation of fans and idols, of bunnies and newjeans.
1. we’re just happy seeing our idols 2. how we go thru shit together 3. supporting each other 4. how people view fans as outcast. 5. finally going thru adulthood
This theory provides a more uplifting perspective, considering how New Jeans and fans (Bunnies) are being represented in the music video and how music can bring us all together.
Of course, these are only a few thoughts from fans, so I would love to hear more theories and thoughts about the new Music Video. Does the New Jeans Music Video have an official lore now?🤔
My brain never got this f***** up in a while. I’ve never felt so stupid, scared, at the same time impressed at the same time.
They’re so smart doing this approach. Made me watch both videos so many times but the aesthetics are awesome and listening to the song alone is also a different experience. Winter is here and NewJeans is here to sleigh and slay!

It's pretty clear to me that it's about parasocial relationships. The character's name is literally Ban Hee Soo, which sounds like Bunnies. She represents the fandom. It's about stanning a group and having them be an important part of your life. She's a spectator watching the girls have fun and occasionally feels involved, as if they are her own friends. Even as she's alone and doesn't seem to connect with anyone in real life or is shy about forming relationships, she has her idols to get her through tough times.
I believe the broken arm represents growing pains and adversity, not some kind of revelation that she survived a car accident while the others didn't. It's shown throughout the video, not just at the end, so that in and of itself can't be some kind of twist. A key detail is that the girls are seen writing and drawing on her cast at one point and then another scene shows Hee Soo painting Minji's right pinky fingernail. Then at the end of Side A it's revealed that her cast is blank and her own right pinky fingernail is painted. I interpret that as her imagining the care and affection of the members, which isn't real, but her affection towards Minji and the group IS real and she can in turn show that care to herself in a real way ㅡ basically, they helped her love herself.
Another key point is that Side B ends the way Side A begins. She's clearly grown up now. Her hand is no longer in the cast and she even pops the VHS tape in with her left hand. She's reminiscing on the past, going through old tapes, the way some of us may go back and watch clips of the groups we loved that are no longer around or disbanded. It's a coming-of-age story, about times long gone that we can look back on, sometimes fondly and/or regretfully, that we can't ever get back, and how the idols we loved will always be a part of those moments in our lives.
