The MAMA Awards announced that they're preparing to hold one of its ceremonies in the United States in the near future.
On November 16, at the '2022 MAMA AWARDS' global press conference held at the CJ ENM Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Kim Hyun Soo, head of CJ ENM's music content division, talked about holding the event in the United States. He explained, "We are planning and preparing to hold an event offline in the U.S. within three years.”
He continued, "There are a lot of fans from all over the world voting for this year's WORLDWIDE FANS' CHOICE category, and so many people are voting in the U.S. that the U.S. region is at the TOP 5."
Director Kim Hyun Soo said, "I think it's reckless to divide the online region and offline region. I believe that MAMA is already an award ceremony that allows fans from all over the world to interact and be together."
Nevertheless, South Korean netizens think otherwise. K-netizens reacted, "Why are they holding a K-pop show overseas?" "Why are they trying to go to the U.S?" "Please, it's the Mnet Asia Music Award, why are they going to the United States?" "Please hold Asian Music award shows in Asia," "Why can't they have these ceremonies in Korea?" "I really want them to have these K-pop awards shows in Korea," and "Just have the show in Korea."
That's ridiculous in so many ways. This is an Asian award show. This isn’t KCON
