On November 11, actress/model Jung Ho Yeon held her first-ever solo fan meeting in Manila, Philippines, as the global ambassador of IAM Worldwide. Ho Yeon attended a press conference prior to the show to answer some questions from the media.
When asked how she feels about being loved and supported by Filipino fans after seeing her role in theNetflix series 'Squid Game,' Ho Yeon said, "First of all, it has been such a great honor. It's my first time to travel here for work aside from trips I've taken for personal leisure." She went on to say that the team of IAM Worldwide has been treating her well with delicious foods and she's enjoying herself so much that she will come back no matter what.
When asked where she would go on vacation if she could go anywhere in the country. Ho Yeon stated that she had heard that the Philippines has many islands and that she would like to visit one of them. "I just want to do nothing, lie on the sand, look at the sky, get on a boat, get onto the water because I really need a break right now, and that's what I want to do."
When asked what personality trait her 'Squid Game' character Kang Sae Byeok has that she believes is similar to her own personality or that she finds relatable, Ho Yeon responded, "More than my character's heavy actions or the things I did on the show, it was really more of this quality Sae Byeok being in a different country, a different place where she did not grow up and she had to go into this foreign place with a different culture, earn money, and live there."
Ho Yeon was asked what her upcoming acting projects are after the popular television series 'Squid Game' was released more than a year ago. Ho Yeo stated, "I have a lot of projects that are currently in the works." She said that one is the Apple TV+ series 'Disclaimer,' the film titled 'The Governess,' which will be her Hollywood debut, and the Netflix drama series based on the well-known webtoon 'Dakgangjeong.'
When asked what piece of wisdom she believes has had the biggest impact on the way she sees the world, Ho Yeon said, "The question is kind of difficult because the way I see the world is changing all the time and even today. However, something that I like to talk about and share with my friends is the feeling of empathy with each other. I feel like everyone is getting busier by the day. We're not very interested in each other's lives."
Ho Yeon stated that she frequently gets the question but doesn't believe she has one in response to the questions of what role she hopes to take on next and what genre she feels best fits her. She speculated that "it might be because I am a very adventurous [person] and maybe it's because I'm greedy as well."
She added, "I don't have a particular answer to that right now. I just want to explore and do many different things. I want to try all kinds of genres and I want to play all kinds of characters."
The actress listed her Emmy nomination, SAG award, and getting to work with Alfonso Cuarón and Cate Blanchett as her top three highlights of 2022 so far when asked by the media. In response to receiving the outstanding performance by a female actor award at the 'Screen Actors Guild Awards,' Ho Yeon said, "I never been like through that kind of more roller coaster in just a few hours in that day."
Ho Yeon on how she stays grounded while her career is taking off, especially with the success of 'Squid Game,' said, "It's something that I put a lot of thoughts into and efforts into to keep myself grounded. I think that it's really about taking some time for myself." She continued, "I need to take some time out by myself to process all of that and to kind of arrange my thoughts a little bit, and then from there, I also go even further to think about having this experience." She said that she first needs to understand what is happening to her, what experience she is having, and the feelings she is experiencing.
"I wouldn't go as far as saying that I'm planning out my next steps, but it's really just about giving myself that mental space and emotional space," Ho Yeon continued.
She stated that organizing her belongings during the process of moving houses in Korea recently made her realize that doing so was a very good meditative activity and that it was also very therapeutic. "If I had a friend who was going through an emotionally difficult time right now and she asked for her advice on what she should do, I would probably tell them that you should arrange her stuff, do house chores or something that's going to help you," said the actress.
Ho Yeon then answered allkpop's question, when asked what kind of memories she want to make with Filipino fans, the actress replied, "This might be an odd answer, but I would really like to see a lot of things in my eyes. I want to see many different things whether I'm going to a restaurant." She then added that she takes a lot of pictures because she wants to save them in her mind.
"I really like to give hugs but, of course, the concern during this time is we still have the virus, and we're still not clear on that. But I'm hoping that I will be able to give a lot of hugs on this trip," she continued.
Jung Ho Yeon's fan meeting in the Philippines was presented by Wilbros Live and IAM Worldwide.
I wish her luck with all of her future projects!
