K-pop focuses a lot on numbers, and with the plethora of music that is expanding day by day, it's so hard to keep track of everything going on. 2022 was a fierce year in k-pop, with many debuts, legendary comebacks, and so much more. It was especially more meaningful as the country of South Korea began opening up a little more and more after two full years of halt through COVID-19.
K-pop fans were incredibly joyful, as Korean fans could finally attend concerts and music shows again after a long two years. The music industry is booming more than ever, and it's time to check out some of the currently active groups and their popularity!
Today -- we will be taking a look at the top 10 most streamed boy group songs in 2022. As much as girl groups were a huge factor in k-pop this year, boy groups cannot be unspoken at all. With massive fandoms and great music, it's definitely a competitive race out here. So today -- let's see which Korean song was the most beloved in the boy group category!
#10 - SEVENTEEN - March (24,000,000 Streams) Tie
Despite being a seventh-year veteran, SEVENTEEN has been killing it, and their dominance and presence in k-pop are still felt today. I mean, they are still doing their world tour!
#10 - SEVENTEEN - Domino (24,000,000 Streams) Tie
And no - SEVENTEEN is still very relevant in South Korea as well. It's not uncommon to see groups with more global fame not have as much Korean presence, but that is absolutely false for these boys. Korean Carats still have a huge impact! They tied themselves as the tenth most listened-to song on the Korean streaming platform!
#9 - NCT DREAM - Never Goodbye (24,300,000 Streams)
The NCT boys of SM have been killing it on Melon just as well, showing the bright future ahead for NCT and SM Entertainment!
#8 - Highlight - DAYDREAM (25,000,000 Streams)
Yes - the boys of HIGHLIGHT (formerly BEAST) are still in the top 10, despite being in the industry for THIRTEEN years. Their music has become more mature, and that is enough to get listeners in.
#7 - SEVENTEEN - DON QUIXOTE (25,300,000 Streams)
If you thought it was over for this group, you are clearly mistaken. Some can argue that 2022 was the year of SEVENTEEN as their fourth full-length album was on FIRE, and it wasn't only the title track.
#6 - NCT DREAM - Beatbox (29,100,000 Streams)
NCT DREAM is just up there with SEVENTEEN, showing their vast fandom and the love that the nation has for these mighty boys!
#5 - BTS - Yet to Come (46,700,000 Streams)
This Top 10 list would seem a little empty without some BTS. The global superstars' single was the fifth most-listened boy group single so far in 2022.
#4 - NCT DREAM - Glitch Mode (47,100,000 Streams)
NCT DREAM hit a triple crown on this top 10 list, with three songs making it on the list! This title track was catchy, and those TikTok challenges were definitely a hit!
#3 - SEVENTEEN - Darl+ing (54,800,000 Streams)
SEVENTEEN continued to dominate charts as Darl+ing, one of their calmer songs, soothed the ears of Korea's busy, busy society.
#2 - SEVENTEEN - HOT (56,9000,000 Streams)
Seventeen had not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but a whopping FIVE songs make it into this top 10 list -- showing their tremendous impact in South Korea despite being veterans. Their fourth full-length album was a big one for the boys and carats, foreshadowing a tremendous future for these global superstars.
#1 - BIG BANG - Still Life (110,800,000 Streams)
And the #1 spot goes to the untouchable—the legends. Big Bang released what might be their last single as a group, and the entire Korean public went insane. I mean -- the song itself was a bop, and it truly portrayed Big Bang's musical ability in the best way possible.
We want to remind you that this top 10 ranking was solely based on Melon - an app heavily used by Korean users in South Korea. So the charts may look a little different in the USA and other countries, but we were able to get a glimpse of what songs rocked 2022 for the Korean public.
